Description
They are perennials with a woody rhizome that in some species can leave the soil to form a small trunk. The leaves are starting from the rhizome erect, slender, thick adapted to drought with scars hidden in the grooves.
The flower is on top of a leafless stem, but with two bracts. The flower has three external tepals varying colors depending on the species and three tiny inner tepals. The three stamens are fused at the base to form a tube around the style and stigma.
Some species are cultivated in Patersonia gardens. The reproduction is by seed or by rhizome brightness.
